It’s no wonder that herringbone has increased in popularity as it detailed design brings a bold statement to any room.

So, what is Herringbone flooring? Herringbone is the name of a type of parquet flooring. It is a design floor and is installed in a pattern of which resembles the bones of a herring. Herringbone flooring is known for giving the illusion that the space looks larger due to its pattern. The effect works best in small areas such as bathrooms and hallways. However, it is becoming increasing popular in kitchens. Herringbone flooring can be used in most places within your home. Using a lighter colour also helps to brighten small dark rooms.

Parquet flooring can be made from almost any materials. However, when laid in a herringbone design, wood affect tiles such as LVT are most popular.

Top manufacturers such as Amtico and Karndean are now starting to turn their basic straight lay LVTs into herringbone patterns.

One thing to keep in mind when looking into herringbone flooring is that you will be paying a premium price as it required more material and installation becomes more technical.

What are the trending colours for this year!

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a new floor, whether that be carpet or LVT, is colour. You don’t want to splash out on thousands of pounds on new flooring for it be out of date in a couple years. You want to find a flooring that is timeless.

It is always a good idea to have a look into what colours are ‘outdated’ in 2023 and what is trending when looking into purchasing new flooring. After speaking with Sophia Appleby-Smith from Crucial Trading, she informed me that one of the key differences in colours from 2022 compared to 2023 is that we are stepping away from the cool tones such as grey and are heading towards much warmer colours like orange.

Now, we don’t mean that consumers will be buying bright orange flooring, however they will be looking into the warmth surrounding the product and we will see a rise in purchases of floor coverings being sold with warmer tones and traces of orange throughout. Manufacturers like Crucial Trading have been working hard to release more colours of their flooring so that it is on trend with this year’s interior design. Taking fashion trends from places like Milan and incorporating it into their design work. Crucial trading are well known for creating bespoke rugs and their new ranges include orange tones throughout. Rugs are a subtle way of adding a pop of colour into any space within your home.

Natural Flooring is in!

More people than ever are turning to natural floor coverings when redecorating their home. Homeowners are looking into product that represent heritage and localism. Natural flooring such as wool carpets and hardwood flooring are favoured for their unique textures and eco-friendly qualities, both natural carpets and wood flooring can have a transformational design impact on the home.

Now that we are looking into more of a rustic look within our homes, natural textures like jute and sisal are perfect for more modern rustic styles. The simplicity of this look is similar to hardwood floors, you still get that organic style and plenty of texture but just with a little more softness underfoot.
